The journey begins on the earth, hence starting with the Root (red) Chakra. Thoughout the path, the participant moves through Sacral (orange), Solar Plexus (yellow), Heart (green), Throat (blue), 3rd Eye (indigo), and finally ending at Crown (violet). The center of the Labyrinth is purposely not colored, allowing the participant to experience the Divine.
From my experience, Labyrinth walks are very much like moving through the Chakra's. It also allows me to spend as much (or as little) time as I choose on any one Chakra. It's a logical progression (for me), and doesn't force me to think about jumping around (starting at a place other than Root).
In the actual Labyrinth, I inserted white "orbs" between the color areas (moving from one Chakra color to the next). This intent was to allow the participant an visual reference point that allowed continued work within a specific Chakra. If the healing work within that portion of the Labyrinth journey was complete, then, the walk progressed. If there was dis-ease within that area, then the participant could spend as much time as was needed.
