Randy and Pamela created an outdoor 7-Circuit candlelight Labyrinth
("Heart-in-the-Chart") for celebration of Winter Solstice.
The Labyrinth used 576 votive candle holders and tea lights to create the 52'
7-Circuit Labyrinth.
The Labyrinth took about 2 hours to construct and was ready for the first walker
at 2:00pm.
About 4:00pm, when we started lighting the votives, it became windy and started
blowing the candles out. We moved to Plan B, which was to use white (#8 Duro)
bags as luminaries (that we will use for the First Night Fredericksburg event) and
we placed the lit candles inside the bags.
After another 2 hours to light all the candles and place them inside the bags, the
Labyrinth began her dance.
We are grateful to the Free Lance Star (Fredericksburg's daily newspaper) for the
story they will be doing (Scott was there for over 2 1/2 hours), folks from Unity
Church of Fredericksburg who helped to light the candles, members of the
Fredericksburg Baptist Church, who stopped by to sing carols, The
Fredericksburg Fire and Rescue Station (adjacent to Hurkamp Park) for their
restrooms.
Pamela counted 52 people who actually walked the Labyrinth. Many more
stopped by, many while walking their dogs, and wanted to learn more about what
we were doing. Some came back (sans dogs) and walked.
We learned a lot doing this, and we both are looking forward to (and will be ready
for) First Night Fredericksburg.
